Young duo claim bronze in CrossFit contest

A teenage duo have defeated some of the region’s best in a battle of the fittest.

Ebony Gallagher and Charlotte Love were the youngest pairing in the Dynamic Duo Throwdown at Inverell’s Road 2 Victory CrossFit gym and managed to outdo the competition to bring home the bronze medal.

They went through four rigorous workouts – which involved deadlifts, lunges, pull-ups and high-intensity activities – against older and more experienced adult combinations.

“Going into the comp knowing we were the youngest pair there, we were pretty nervous as we knew we would be up against more experienced athletes who had been doing CrossFit longer,” Gallagher said.

“But saying that, we both really wanted to show to everyone that age wasn't going to bring us down nor stand in our way of really giving it our best shot and doing it not only for ourselves but for each other.

“We were appropriately placed in the scaled division so weights were appropriate for our age and level of experience.

“All other couple entered were adults who were more experienced.”

The Glen Innes pair train at Drive Group Fitness which made sure they were prepared for the exercises required to make an impact on the competition in Inverell.

Gallagher said they didn’t head into the September 23 event expecting to match it with some of the contestants, let alone finish in third place.

“No way, not against men and women,” she said.

“We went in it for the experience, the friendship and the challenge, however we are both a little competitive in personality so we pushed each other gently on the day, wanting to do our best.

“Being able to do the comp with Charlotte was amazing as we not only took away new experiences but also a friendship that grew even stronger and without having each other's drive and push we would not have been able to get through some of those workouts let alone finish the day.

“Of course the comp also exposed things we need to work on for the future.”

Katie Rossington and James Ireland also competed.
