Both are important. When her younger brother was diagnosed with cancer shortly before his eleventh birthday two months ago, she knew she had to do something so she decided to shave her hair off to raise money.
While he continues his treatment at the Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney next week, she will be under the clippers to raise money for Bradley.
In a world which often disappoints, 16 year-old Annabell lifts the spirit.
Friends are already rallying round. She has a volunteer to wield the shaver: “My friend, Brodie, has taken dibs on doing it.”
The great event is to take place on Wednesday, June 13 at 2 pm, she hopes outside the Town Hall in Glen Innes.
There will be buckets for money but she has also signed up on the worldsgreatestshave.com website. If you want to give, you just go there and type in her name – Annabell Knox – and the rest is easy.
There is also to be a special fund-raising day at Glen Innes High School where she says half will go to a general cancer charity and half to the money she’s raising for her brother.
On the shaving of her own hair for a good cause, she said: “I’ve wanted to do it for some time but then my brother going through his cancer made me more determined”.
Bradley was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma on April 10. His eleventh birthday was on April 28.
Ewing’s sarcome is described as “a very rare type of cancerous tumor that grows in bones or the soft tissue around bones, such as cartilage or the nerves. It usually affects people from the ages of ten to 20”.
But the medical authorities say it has a high rate of being cured.
Bradley has a fabulous sister.
