Locals showed their support for Rugby League by turning out in big numbers to support a day of junior football.
Magpie’s Minor league spokesperson Jeanette Hillier said the day was a huge success and the GIML club should be congratulated for their wonderful effort in hosting such a big event.
“Whilst there were a few late withdrawals, the day was very well supported by most Group 19 JRL clubs with one visiting club attending being Tenterfield who regularly compete in the Warwick & District Junior League Competition,” she said.
“Looking at some figures from the day, there were, five fields, accommodating 43 various teams, all of which played two games each, representing eight different clubs , involving 597 players in total and 27 referees, 18 of which were local.
“All this kept in order by time keepers, scorers, referee mentors, ground marshals, with numerous volunteers just helping out where they could.”
Mrs Hillier said the club was honoured that Teresa Creighton was in attendance to present the Cup to Adrian Bruce, President of Glen Innes Minor League.
“The club was very proud to host the day,” she said.
Gordon Creighton’s friend Russell Meehan said it was a great day for junior rugby league in Glen Innes.
“What a great day of Junior rugby league, Glen Innes hosted the Gordon Creighton Cup today and how my old mate would have been chuffed”, he said.
