The workshops are the latest in a long-running series of soil health and production workshops attended by hundreds of farmers on the Northern Tablelands.
The workshops, hosted by the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services, give farmers the opportunity to gain new insights into the soil that provides the bedrock for their businesses.
A presentation will be given by soil scientist David Hardwick.
Those attending will be able to draw on his knowledge in understanding soils. Mr Hardwick will also assess soil biology.
Northern Tablelands Land Services Officer Sandy Hodgens said the workshops will help farmers to maximise sustainable pasture production and obtain a good knowledge of how their soils work.
“The workshops will help landholders understand the fundamentals of soil health and how changes in soil management can improve farm profitability,” Sandy Hodgens said.
The Northern Tablelands Land Services have been overwhelmed at the response to the workshops.
Practical demonstrations will also be included on soil sampling and soil pit sessions.
These practical type workshops and sessions have proved popular with landholders throughout the district.
These sessions will examine soil profiles and plant root structure down to one metre below the surface.
“We’ll be studying the physical, chemical and biological components of the soil and how they interact,” Sandy Hodgens said.
“The workshops will focus on how soil health impacts productivity of pastures, crops and livestock,” she said.
Soil health and production workshops will take place on Wednesday, February 22 in Guyra, Thursday, February 23 in Bundarra, and Friday, February 24 in Glen Innes.
Landholders interested in registering for a soil health and production workshop and to book their place should contact Sandy Hodgens on 0428 744 287 at Northern Tablelands Local Land Services in Inverell.
