Paul Reginald Dunn had been on the run since allegedly fleeing the minimum security Glen Innes Correctional Centre on the afternoon of January 27.
Following community information, New England police went to house in Armidale about 3am on Wednesday where they arrested a 36-year-old man “without incident”.
He was taken back to Armidale Police Station and charged with escaping lawful custody and was refused bail.
Dunn appeared in an out-of-sessions bail hearing in Armidale Local Court on Wednesday morning where he was again refused bail by the court.
He will remain in custody until the case returns to court in Armidale later this month.
The manhunt for Dunn was sparked after he allegedly failed to attend muster and staff were unable to find him during a search of the prison complex about 3.30pm on January 27.
