Glen Innes Jockey Club president Mark Richie said the service is being hosted at the club for those who couldn’t make it to Thursday’s service in Tamworth, or that wish to remember Darren in his home town.
Mr Richie said the event will be officiated by Greg Kachel, starting at 11am with finger food and drinks offered. People are invited there to share their memories of the successful rider. Anyone needing more information is invited to call Mr Richie on 0429 336 743.
The former Glen Innes local was one of three jockeys who came down in the Warialda Sprint. He moved to Tamworth in the mid-1980s as an apprentice to Merv Corliss, riding predominantly for Sue Grills, Leon Davies and Leslie Jeffries.
“He was a good young fella, good family man and a good rider,” Jeffries said on Sunday. “His work ethic was just enormous.”
