Highlanders first and second division played TAS at Armidale on Saturday with seconds going down 7-0. The young team was out paced in the first half with TAS strikers running through our backs to score six goals. The half-time break saw some key positional changes which held TAS to only one more goal. Players’ player was Connor Duddy with a great effort all game.

Firsts were missing four players but spirits were high going in against the ladder leaders. We started well but TAS scored first in the 20th minute we quickly fought back. Mick Maroney levelled the score in front of the sticks. Liam Muckenschnabel scored a great individual goal just before half-time to be 2-1 up at the break. Our young players filling in were tiring but never gave up in the second half and our backs saved raid after raid from TAS to keep them out. Luck went against us, our striker received a red card with 20 minutes to go. Down to 10 men we scrambled all over the field to shut them down and in their frustration they committed a foul in the box. Liam Muckenschnabel made no mistake of the dot shot to win the match 3-1. Tom Mitchell in goals was player’s player but anyone of the11 on field could have received the award with a super effort by all.
This week we play Demon Knights at home.
