McIntyre made the trip to Bendigo for the trans-Tasman test against New Zealand on October 27 before the national competition on October 28.
McIntyre combined with South Australia’s Shannon Warnest and Victoria’s Jason Wingfield to beat the Kiwis after the trio missed out on the win last year.
In the national championships, McIntyre represented NSW alongside team newcomers Young’s Josh Mills and former Glen Innes-local Jeremy Newberry.
“It is great to see some fresh blood coming through the ranks and getting to represent the State,” McIntyre said.
“The camaraderie within the team this year was something to be commended. Jeremy is actually a close cousin of mine. Having grown up together and having worked together since he started shearing, to see him finish in the top 10 in Australia is bloody awesome.”
McIntyre has been shearing for 19 years and it was the 13th time he took on the national championships.
He won the trophy in 2014 and 2015 before finished third in last year’s event to Australian teammate Warnest.
After the heats, McIntyre comfortably made the final with Newberry just outside in eighth place.
The six finalists had 12 sheep to shear and were timed and judged on their quality before the winner was announced.
McIntyre finished four minutes behind the fastest competitor, Wingfield, in fourth place but his precision saw him leapfrog his way to the top and win by two points.
Newberry also competed in an open shearing competition the day before and made his way into the final to finish sixth.
