The club combined with Inverell to train throughout winter and their hard work has paid off.
Six swimmers made the trip to Banora Point, south of Tweed Heads, on Saturday for their first long course meet of the summer season.
The Redfins normally compete across the New England North West but were eager to start their season and get a jump on their competition and made the trip out of the area to get going.
All six finished the carnival either on the podium or with a new personal best.
Warne McShane started his season well. He only raced in one event to finish with a two-second personal best in the 50 metre freestyle.
Cadence McShane swam in five events and finished with personal bests in each of them.
Highlights for her were:
- 10 seconds off her 100m backstroke time
- A 14-second personal best in her 200m breaststroke
- Five-second personal best in the 100m breaststroke
Beth Arandale swam in four events to land three personal bests which included two seconds shaved off her 50m freestyle time, two seconds off in the 100m backstroke and two seconds off her 100m breastroke time.
Beth also took on the 200m backstroke race for the first time.
Kyara McIntyre had a busy carnival with plenty of podium finishes.
She came second in the 50m freestyle with a one-second personal best.
She finished third in the 100m freestyle and fifth in the 200m with a massive 12-second personal best.
In the breastroke events, her success continued with a second in the 50m, second in the 100m with a five-second personal best and first in the 200 metre with another big personal best of 21 seconds.
Kyara also managed two places in the backstroke with first in the 50m and second in the 100m with a one-second personal best.
Two of her races were fast enough to qualify her for the country championships.
She missed out on a third time by 0.64 seconds.
Inverell swimmer Sophie Mijic also had a busy carnival and was up against Kyara in most of her races.
In the freestyle, Sophie finished first in the 100m, ninth in the 50m, seventh in the 200m and sixth in the 400m which included a seven-second personal best.
In the butterfly events, Sophie placed first in the 100m and fifth in the 50m.
The swimming season is just heating up.
The season runs from October through to March and the Redfins are in full swing at training to prepare for the coming carnivals.
