Inverell High’s Sarah Byrne received the prestigious North West Service Award for her success at high levels across a number of sports including athletics, swimming, touch football and rugby union.
Glen Innes High’s Matthew Campion received a North West Blue Award for his achievements in running events. He has excelled in athletics and cross country running throughout his school sports career, competing at state and national level.
He said it was “a good way to end” his high school sporting career with some of the school-based events the toughest he’s run in.
“To be recognised with a North West Blue was a fitting way to end,” he said.
“It is ridiculously competitive because you get the best from Australia all in one race but I have really enjoyed it.
“It is probably a more even playing field because everyone gets a chance.”
