Participants travelled to town to join in on the jam-packed program.
“We got 71 kids, we had visitors from Gunnedah, Northern Suburbs which is Queensland, Boggabri and Moree,” chief instructor Julie Donnelly said.
“We had from three-year-olds right up to our leavers, 16-year-olds, so we had a huge age range which was good.”
Riders didn’t miss out on trying many of the equestrian disciplines with everything from flat riding to campdrafting and jumping catered for.
A stockman’s challenge was prepared for the riders to test out a broader range of skills
“We had Jane Humphries from Moree and she did a really great job with the dressage, Ben and Codie did well with the campdraft,” Donnelly said.
“Donna Kempton came in and did horsemanship for the day and she did a really good job. We had Royce Meyer and Belinda Williamson come in and do a stockman's challenge so that was a bit of a challenge for the kids to do on Wednesday. On Monday afternoon we had a bit of a fun competition where I got all the 71 kids together and we did a mounted games comp.”
The annual camp competition on Friday and Saturday put all the skills they learned through the week to the test. Dressage, jumping, campdrafting and sporting events were contested on Friday before the hacking and bending and flag race finals on Saturday. It was a busy week but Donnelly said it ran smoothly.
“It was a huge success and thank you to the hardworking committee, all the instructors and parents and the kids,” she said.
