Dr. Jodi Rowley will cover the search for the Yellow Peppered Tree frog which was last identified in the 1970s in the area.
Dr Rowley is the Curator of Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Biology at the Australian Museum and UNSW Australia and recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in the field.
Her talk will be at the Services Club and start at 7 pm.
She says: “I’m a frog detective. I spend my time searching the swamps, streams and ponds of the world in search of frogs. My goal is to figure out how many species of frog there are, how they are doing and how we can ensure that frogs are around for future generations.”
After her talks, a project to save a threatened species of turtle will be explained.
Martin Dillon from the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services will talk about the Bell's Turtle Recovery Project.
Specially trained sniffer dogs have been used to detect turtle nests. Eggs are then protected from foxes and other predators.
