The police have not confirmed his identity until they are sure that his family is aware but friends have told the Examiner who it is. His partner’s Facebook page is filling with messages of sympathy.
The man in his 50s had several children.
The crash happened early on Monday afternoon on the Gwydir Highway, Jackadgery, 40 kilometres west of Grafton. Two trucks collided head-on.
A police statement said: “Just after 2.15pm (Monday 15 January 2018), emergency services were called to the Gwydir Highway, Jackadgery, 40km west of Grafton, following reports two trucks have collided head-on.
The male driver of a tipper truck, aged in his 50s, died at the scene; he has not yet been formally identified.
The male driver of a cattle truck also aged in his 50s, died at the scene; he has not yet been formally identified.
Officers from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command attended and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Local lands service personnel and a local vet will be attending to euthanise the injured cattle.
A report will be prepared for information of the Coroner.”
