Tourism is to be taught on Saturdays.
There’ll also be courses in Fitness, Food handling and safety, Aboriginal Health Work, 3D printing and how to fly a drone.
The new courses have been made possible because of advances in remote learning so teachers are shared across the region. The Connected Learning Centre is equipped with computers and remote links to similar centres across New England.
The Centre has allowed TAFE to expand the courses on offer in Glen Innes.
There are old favourites like welding, forklift truck driving, agriculture and horticulture but also new offerings to train people to work in new and growing industries like tourism or fitness.
It is offering, for example a “Certificate in Tourism” course to prepare people for jobs like being a guide on an adventure tour or a winery or to work in theme parks or visitor information offices.
To make it easier for people who might want to transition from their current job into the new industry, courses will be held in the evening. Some courses will be held on Saturdays for the same reason.
TAFE’s customer support manager (responsible for helping students and potential students), Cassie Donnelly, said this Enrolment Week had been “busy”. Classes start on February 5 and enrollment is open now.
