Glen Innes District Cricket Association will don pink and play a Twenty20 double header on February 24 at King George Oval for the McGrath Foundation’s Pink Stumps Day.
The association are calling on the community to come along and support them.
“We are hoping it will raise a few dollars for the McGrath Foundation as well as raise a bit of awareness of cricket in Glen Innes because it seems to be a dying thing here at the moment,” secretary Greg Wilkins said.
The first game will start at 12pm with premiers Emmaville playing the Cavaliers, followed by a clash between Kings Gym and the NEC Colts. The Twenty20 format has reinvigorated the sport with it’s quicker game time, big hits and off-the-field entertainment.
A signed Sydney Sixers bat will be auctioned off as well as other items.
“We are going to do multidraw raffles, merchandise for sale, raffles on and refreshments,” Wilkins said.
“We thought if we make them T20s, play them both at the same ground on the same day, we might have a loudspeaker there with music playing. What we are going to do with the bat we get from Pink Stumps is the four clubs, we are going to get all the players to sign the bat and we will auction it off as well at the end of the day.”
