Junior rugby league in the region is growing and two new competitions will be introduced for this season in Group 19 to keep up with the demand.
Group 19 decided to include a mini competition for youngsters wanting to play rugby league.
It will be open to children turning five or six in 2018.
The new competition will mean younger children can play in a fair game with players their own age while developing their football skills.
It also means any five or six-year-old player interested in signing up won’t have to join the under 8 team and play against bigger children.
Women’s rugby league is one of the fastest growing sports in the state and league tag in the Group has proved a success over the years.
League tag has surged in popularity and plans are in place to introduce a new division to create more opportunities for girls wishing to take up the sport.
This year there will be three league tag competitions in juniors – an eight, nine and ten-year-old category, 11, 12 and 13-year-olds will have their own competition and 14,15 and 16 year-olds will battle in their division.
Anyone interested in signing up should contact their local club.
