She said it was a matter of “urgency” because of “a high incidence of youth suicide and domestic violence in the town”.
There is currently a youth worker but the post is only the equivalent of one day a week. Cr Spark’s motion was carried so the council will look at spending more in the new financial year to increase the commitment.
The youth worker has recently been surveying young people to find out what they want, offering answers like: “a safe place to go”, “more youth activities’, “wi-fi” or “more services e.g. Mental Health”.
