He made the pastry for the champion pasty of Glen Innes. And he’s making a real aircraft in a workshop at the back of his property.
Not only is he constructing every part according to a 1934 plan for a wooden plane but he cuts the timber down himself and has seasoned it over the years – so he’s called the project “From Standing Tree to Flying Machine”.
John is a qualified pilot. He has a small light aircraft in the “hangar” of his property and a landing strip running from the building.
He has enthusiasm and great self-taught engineering skill.
At 76 he doesn’t know if he will ever fly the machine he is building but “but I really hope I do”.
So do we.
