She will be at the Commonwealth Games aquatic centre helping people to their seats and generally being helpful.
The mother from Glen Innes was one of those chosen from the 47,000 who applied to be “Game Shapers” at the Gold Coast competitions.
She doesn’t get paid – apart from with the satisfaction of helping and of witnessing a great event.
She will have the weekends free so she and her husband and three children will go to other events.
She was chosen for her friendliness. When she was interviewed one of the questions was : when was the last time you went out of your way to help somoene?
She replied that she had taken someone to Brisbane that very trip.
She’s been surprised by the others helping at the game. Half were volunteers and the other half were permanent staff who go from one Commonwealth Games to the next.
She said this games was significant because it was the first Commonwealth Games where the numbers of medals and so competitions was the same for men and women.
