Ryan Langer was charged with a string of offences including drink driving and speeding after the smash on the Shannon Vale Road, Glen Innes on August 13 last year.
The passenger in the car, 19-year-old Tamika, died when the vehicle spun out of control on a bend.
In court in Armidale, he pleaded guilty to the allegation of “dangerous driving occasioning death”.
Langer remains out on bail and will be sentenced in June. Magistrate Michael Holmes ordered reports on the events.
After the crash, friends of the dead teenager gathered to hold vigils and leave tributes at the scene in memory of their friend.
