Taking on sides from the Gympie Thunder and the Brisbane-based Skateabout, the under 14, 17 and beginners teams from the local club triumphed in their divisions while the senior side finished second.
The junior teams’ coach Daniel Heagney said the club was “very proud” to claim three trophies on their home turf but highlighted the under 17’s win as the biggest feat of the weekend.
“I wanted to praise the under 17s team because that was a really hard-fought division,” he said.
“They had three draws and had to go into overtime in the third game to actually get a result.
“They were probably the best games to watch in terms of excitement levels.
“Three draws in-a-row, nothing separating the three teams and we had to go into overtime so we actually got a result.
“We managed to clean up and get to 7-4 in the 10 minutes overtime.”
It was a big effort from everyone involved and it was great to get the results we did.

Individually, Northsports players excelled with Charli Elliot in the beginners, Maddison Crawford in the under 14s, Braidon Crawford in under 17s and Errol Heagney in the seniors picking up the Most Valuable Player awards.
“Some of them were playing in two divisions and had to play a lot of games over the weekend so they would have been getting a bit tired,” Heagney said.
“It was a big effort from everyone involved and it was great to get the results we did.”
As it stands, Northsports are the only club in NSW to compete at the interstate tournaments with many members also earning representative honours.
The sport itself continues to grow in Glen Innes.
“We are doing really well building the sport at the moment, we have quite a lot of junior players, sometimes up to 20 players which is probably more than any other team in Australia,” Heagney said.
“We have four or five players in the Australian teams this year.
“We churn out some quality players from here which is quite good for a small town, particularly when the majority of other clubs are from metropolitan areas - most of the teams are in Melbourne and Brisbane really.”
