They will find the 18 hole par 71 course in immaculate condition thanks to the work of greenkeeper Peter Lawson.

GIGC golf co-ordinator Rod Kiehne said Lawson and his apprentice have worked hard to have the course in outstanding nick.

“They have done a great job,” Rod Kiehne said.

“The course is in very good condition, the greens are very good at the moment. We’ve been lucky with our greenkeepers too. Peter came here about four years ago and has done a very good job.”

It means Kiehne welcomes all and sundry to come and play at the course situated about 6km north of Glen Innes on the way to Deepwater and especially to the “chopper day” on May 27.

“It’s always a good day,” he said.

“About the third year we’ve had it now. It was played for a long while but then stopped for a little while and it’s for a good cause. We had a good rollup last year too.”

The three person ambrose offers some great prizes and costs just $30 per player, which includes a barbeque lunch.

WRHS volunteer support group co-ordinator Kim Newling thanks the Glen Innes Services Club and Golf Club for their support along with the generosity of the local community and businesses in running such a happy charity day.

She said the money raised will stay in the New England and North West region of the WRHS to ensure “no one ever has to pay” to be transported by the chopper.

She also thanks her local Glen Innes and Severn Support Group for their organisation of the golf day and on-going fundraising activities.
