The Elks played the Barbarians in round five for a 35-nil loss before taking on the Armidale Blues in their most recent match and going down 47-5.
Despite the scorelines, Elks’ vice-president Sam Price said there were reassuring signs.
“The loss against the Baa Baas was a bit disheartening – we didn't hold on to the ball, we got a lot of penalties,” he said.
“The game against the Blues, a big loss but a much better game.
“We held on to the pill a lot, didn't give away a lot penalties, we won a lot of the lineouts.
“Huge amount of positives out of it -we retained possession really well, in attack the forwards really picked and drived and controlled the breakdown quite well compared to how we had done in the past.”
The Elks travel to Armidale to play Robb College this Saturday and while the students sit near the top-of-the-table, Price said the Glen Innes side are just aiming to enjoy the game.
“At the end of the day we aren't really worried about the results this year, we are just interested in building the skills base and the interest back in the club and concentrating on that club spirit and getting everyone in and having a good time,” he said.
