After doing well in Glen Innes High School, he’s on a gap year, working in the premier Store on Grey Street. He excelled academically but also in drama and, particularly in art. He could have gone to university this year but he’s taking time out to think.
And suddenly he saw the course which just fitted – animation in the London College of Communication. He’s been accepted.
“I’m interested in the arts and in the digital arts and when this opportunity came up, it just felt exactly right”, he said.
The college is ranked officially as the sixth best school of art and design in the world, so if you get in, the admissions people have decided you are potentially among the best in the world in your field.
But $30,000 doesn’t just lie around on Grey Street, waiting to be picked up. It might be easy money for the sons and daughters of the seriously rich but not for an ordinary lad from Glen Innes.
So he and his friends have decided to try to raise the money in a sort of crowd-funding venture.
It’s a tall order but it’s worth a go so on July 14, there will be a concert fund-raiser with talented musicians plus raffles and auctions. Lachlan and his friends are to meet and come up with other ideas. They are determined.
We’ll keep you informed.
