Come to the Art on the Corner gallery this Sunday afternoon for coffee and entertainment as local writers share their poetry and prose.

Half-a-dozen members of the Highland Writers’ Group will give free readings of their recent work, published in the Glenthologies collections.

"It's a good mixed bag," writer John Lobley said.

The group has met twice a month since 2010, and their number includes poets, long-form and short story tellers, non-fiction writers, and those with a taste for the quirky.

Each meeting, the members do a writing workshop, and read out what they've written.

“It’s been a great help in writing,” group secretary Mike Gilbert said. “It gets you over writers’ block – and gives you a bit of confidence!"

"Mike Gilbert does fairly traditional verse – and I tend to avoid rhyming stuff!” John said. “Mine's free-form, stream-of-consciousness. Someone else is writing a memoir, and we've got a lady who's published historical fiction."

The Sunday reading will let the writers share their work, and maybe recruit budding writers.

“It will be a bit of enjoyment, a bit of relaxation, and entertainment – something different than what people are used to,” Mike said, “and to realise that these things aren’t too formal or stuffy.”

And with free coffee thrown in!

The reading is from 2 to 3pm at Art on the Corner, corner of Bourke Street and Sommerlad Lane, Sunday 17 June. All are welcome. For enquiries, please ring Mike Gilbert on 67323298 or 0499729843.
