Chard lined up in the backrow for the Greater Western under 18 team at the trials in Toronto late last month and stood out for the side. Coming up against players who line up in National Rugby League feeder teams, it was a tough outing for the Greater Western side.
He was outstanding.
- Tim Polson
While Chard missed out on selection in the state team, Greater Western coach Tim Polson praised the efforts of the young forward.
“He was outstanding. He didn’t get picked but it is very hard to get picked,” Polson said.
“Lachie would have been in our top five players in a squad of 17 for sure.”
Polson applauded Chard’s attitude and effort in defence.
“He plugged his edge really well,” he said.
“He just does really great reads in defence and considering this is his first year in the backrow, the world is at his feet in terms of improvement.
“And his attitude was first rate, always prepared well, recovered well, always did what was asked. Because of their [opponents] game play – they attack our halves who defend next to Lachie – he had a lot of traffic coming his way.”
