The police have revealed that the attack on an “intellectually disabled” man in his own home in Glen Innes used a baseball and knife.

A police statement said: “Between 11.30 pm on Friday and 12.30 am on Saturday, two men, armed with a knife and baseball bat, entered a home on Railway Street, and assaulted the resident.
“The sole occupant, a 56-year-old man, was knocked unconscious and suffered injuries to his head and face.”
The victim who is believed to work for Glen Industries, the enterprise which gives work to disabled people, was taken to the town’s hospital and then to Armidale before being flown by air ambulance to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
There, he had neuro-surgery and was said by the hospital to be in a “serious but stable” condition.
The attack happened on Friday evening but it left the victim unconscious. The ambulance was only called the next morning by a “Good Samaritan” who was in the neighbourly habit of calling in to check on the man at home.
The motive was thought to be robbery but it’s not known if the attackers got away with anything.
A statement by the paramedics from NSW Ambulance said: “An ambulance was called to a male for serious facial and head injuries.
“He was in a serious condition and taken to Glen Innes Hospital.
“He was then taken by ambulance to Armidale Hospital.
“Given the seriousness of his injuries, he required urgent neurosurgery so a NSW ambulance plane was tasked to Armidale and the gentleman was flown to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle”
