Under the “community donations” scheme, local groups and clubs in Glen Innes can get cash to, as the council puts it, “bridge the gap between their wish list and the realisation of a dream”.
It says: “A wide variety of projects, equipment or assistance with financial needs can receive a welcome boost from Council’s Community Donations pool”.
Last year, the recipients included: the RSPCA who got $1,000 to protect the welfare of animals in the area and to give pensioners a $70 voucher for them to have pet animals de-sexed.
Deepwater Jockey Club which got $2,840 to help them pay the rates on the race course.
Glen Innes and District Tennis Association which got $750 for two new nets and a new fridge.
Northsports, Glen Innes which received $1,000 to buy six kits of roller hockey safety equipment.
The council says it wants applications from groups for “projects that will benefit the community” in this new financial year.
There are stipulations: “Please note that applicants must use Council’s Application Form for Community Donations, which lists the application guidelines.
“Council does not make donations to individuals.
“Application forms are available on Council’s website at www.gisc.nsw.gov.au or by contacting Council on 6730 2300. For further information please contact Jacqui Cave at jcave@gisc.nsw.gov.au “.
It says the closing date is August 20 and it will then take two weeks to consider applications, with the acceptable applicants recommended for the money at the council meeting in September.
Successful groups will be notified in writing in early October.
