The club held the event on Saturday, September 8 for those interested in opening their sights to this great sport.
The primary focus was the promotion of a safe and rewarding sport.
It is safe enough that nobody raises an eyebrow when a 12-year-old steps up to the mark with a shotgun.
Clay Target Shooting is a true family orientated sport, where all over the age of twelve can participate.
Whether you are male or female, young or old, you can meet new friends and have fun together in a safe and friendly environment.
Unlike many other sports, there are very few physical limitations to participating.
Clay target shooting is addictive, fun and challenging.
Once you attend just one shoot you will realise what you have been missing - a great sport, and lots of fun.
With experienced shooters supervising, nine adults and three teenagers took the opportunity to give shooting a try.
After those that didn’t already possess a firearms license filled in the necessary paperwork and presented their photo ID, all takers were given an in-depth explanation of safety and their responsibilities when using a firearm.
Firearm safety is the most important aspect of any shooting sport, so safe handling and respect for both the firearm and fellow competitors are two things instilled from the very beginning.
With some one-to-one instruction, many first-timers were soon surprised at how quickly they were able to hit the targets.
Many of those who attended, indicated that they would like to try shooting again with some enquiring about how to join the Glen Innes Clay Target Club and apply for their firearms license.
The Glen Innes Clay Target Club conducts regular monthly competitions with our most recent meet held on Saturday, September 1.
We have two major competitions a year which attract 80 plus competitors who travel from as far away as Sydney, Bendigo, Cobar, Toowoomba and Brisbane.
If you are interested in having a go at clay target shooting, the Glen Innes Clay Target Club is open for practice for members and for those interested in giving it a try from 11.30am on the first Saturday of each month.
Covered footwear is mandatory and ID is required.
Those between 12 and 18 years of age will require parental/guardianship presence.
Any unlicensed personnel require minor paperwork completion to legalise your participation. Experienced club members will be only too happy to assist.
