“The Men’s Health Education Rural Van” will have a registered nurse who can conduct blood pressure, cholesterol and other non-invasive tests which can detect a range of killer afflictions early enough to treat them.
The visit on Friday and Saturday (September 28 and 29) is organised by Rotary whose president in Glen Innes, Mike Condon, said that men died because they were “too proud to go to the doctor for the basic things”.
“As a result, they drop dead in the sheep yard or the pub or the street – anywhere – when a simple check would have prevented it.
“Now’s the chance to do it. It could save your life”.
The tests are free and the caravan will be outside the Town Hall from 10 am to 4 pm.
There is a drive to test for many potentially fatal diseases. Bowel cancer kits have recently been sent out in Glen Innes. A breast cancer screening unit recently visited.
