The blaze 15 kilometres to the north of Glen Innes towards Emmaville started on Friday and was fought intentisevely over the weekend by the RFS and the Glen Innes town brigade.
It spread over 490 hectares.
Fire crews used water bombing aircraft, heavy plant and back-burning ioperations to bring it under control.
The fire was visible for miles around right through Friday and Saturday.
The cause of the fire was not known.
There have been several bush fires in the area in recent weeks, fueled by tinder-dry grass in the drought.
The previous one was towards Pinkett and that, too, took days to bring under control.
It’s all been a test for the new RFS control centre on Lambeth Street, a test the new facility is thought to have passed.
Last month, Superintendent Chris Wallbridge said the bush fire danger period which started at the beginning of August would mean that “residents will need to obtain a fire permit before conducting any burns in the open from this date. Fire permits help landowners to address safety aspects before and during a burn”.
“While it is important to continue hazard reduction we have all seen the devastation that bush fires can bring to a community, so I strongly urge people to exercise caution when carrying out these activities”.
