Or you might think it’s a really imaginative way to recycle material and give students a great space in which to think.
There’s no doubt a project to improve Glen Innes High School’s facilities for older students has innovation written right through it – highly innovative in its aims and innovative in the way the money will be raised.
The plan by the Parents and Citizens committee is to create a “senior academic centre” at the school – a place for students in Years 11 and 12 to use for study during free time.
And they’ve had an L-shaped structure designed. It’s made out of two shipping containers and within the L, there’ll be a garden and a deck.
Who knows, it might even be the kind of simple concept which wins awards.
It’s cost-effective and recycles old materials in an age when that is highly valued. And it’s innovative.
The Department of Education took some convincing but Heather Thomas of the P & C at the school says they’ve been won round.
The second innovation is the way the money is being raised. The P&C committee are organising a mystery tour on November 3. Participants buy tickets at $100 a time. They get texted on the morning to meet at a particular place. They are then ferried to a second mysterious destination.
It’s called a “Dinner in White”.
Participants will have to take tables and chairs and food and drink and then enjoy the evening wherever it may be before being bused back at around midnight.
It’s a “dinner in white” because people should wear white. The organisers say that off-white is just about OK.
Or even beige – beige – would be acceptable but it’s clear that people who come in colours will be viewed as party-poopers.
