Armidale Regional Council have cleared the landslip reported on Tuesday but the road remains closed.
Due to “treacherous” conditions, council made the decision to keep the road shut.
“Conditions are treacherous, consequently the road is still closed. An assessment will be made today,” they said on their Facebook page on Wednesday morning.
EARLIER:
A stretch of the Armidale Road west of Kempsey is closed due to a landslip.
The landslip, five kilometres west of the Kempsey Shire Council border at Smiths Creek, has closed the Armidale Road in both directions.
The landslide was, Armidale Regional Council investigators suspect, caused by last night’s wet weather. Council was notified last night around 9pm.

The road is closed on both the Armidale and the Kempsey sides. Because there is no vehicle access, drivers should use Waterfall Way instead.
Armidale Regional Council has taken charge of the site, because the landslip is closer to Armidale than Kempsey.
Council is currently en route to investigate, and will assess the extent of the damage. They hope the road will reopen this afternoon.
“It’s very bad up top, I’m told,” a Facebook reader posted.
No injuries or damage to cars has been reported.
