What a smashing, positively dashing spectacle the Melbourne Cup lunch at the Glen Innes & District Services Club was!

The ladies were dressed to the nines in extravagant hats and colourful frocks. Some even wore horses on their heads, while one gent sported a natty ice bucket.

“It’s a great day,” the club’s Vanessa McIntyre said. “Nice and colourful, great outfits, and a fantastic atmosphere!”

About 50 people lunched at the club.

For their $15, guests also have the chance to win big.

Apart from placing a big bet on a horse, they can buy sweepstake tickets. The winner is the one lucky enough to have their three horses come home.

The club, though, makes nothing from it.

“It’s all for the people,” Vanessa said. “It’s a love job.”

The theme of this year’s fashion parade was “Light and Bright”.

Christene Gausloa was the best-dressed female, and Richard Marchese the best-dressed male.

Marlene Paterson and son Greg Kempton were the best-dressed couple, Norma Leaman and Joan Jones in second place.

Katherine McCullock wore the best hat.
