The State Government has chipped into a $13,500 funding hit for the club to build a new shed on its little sand-green course.

Club treasurer Neil Zsoldos welcomed the grant announcement, saying the local MP set them up in just the right position to access some funding to add significantly to their assets.
“We are extremely grateful to Adam for the effort he’s put in for us, and for pointing us in the right direction to get this funding,” Mr Zsoldos said. “It is a godsend for a small club like ours.”
The new Colourbond shed – about the size of a double-car garage – will house golf carts, and add security and storage for a new secondhand fairway mower sourced from their buddy club at Coffs Harbour.
Putting up the shed supports the Vegetable Creek Hospital Auxiliary, which caters once a year for the Deepwater Races. They’ll be able to cook and cater from the shed, Mr Zsoldos said.
The club only had about 16 members – some of whom come from outside Deepwater to play weekly on the nine-hole, 18-tee course.
“It might be a tiny club,” Mr Marshall said, “but it definitely punches above its weight as far as representative and pennants competition goes.”
The club has won the net championships in the New England district golf association competition a few times, especially when it comes to sand green play.
“It is a club where all the help is voluntary, where loyalty and an honesty system operates, and where there’s a huge sense of comradeship among the players,” Mr Marshall said.
