After a big win against Peel Bush Cricket in the opening match, the side notched up their second win on-the-trot when hit the road to face fellow round one winners Walcha.
Bowling first, the Glen Innes pace attack got into the swing of things early with Matt Campion taking control.He managed four key wickets on his way to 4-29.
Campion trapped Walcha’s opening batsman Nick Endacott leg-before-wicket for a duck in the third over of the game before Jake Baker then sent Endacott’s replacement, Lachy Fletcher, back to the sheds for the same score.
Walcha were 3-27 when Campion dismissed opener Barry Hoy for 10.
The 19-year-old was on a hat-trick he immediately sent Jay Grills for nought but he had to wait until his next over to attempt the feat.
He didn’t get the hat-trick but did get the key wicket of Cameron Wood for one run.
Number four batsman Jacob Sherrin and Brad Partridge steadied things up with a partnership of 47 before Glen bowler Nick Levy dismissed Partridge for 18.
Walcha’s fourth duck came from Joel Jackson’s bowling with youngster Daniel Boyd dismissed.
Jackson had another soon after with Lee Harrison caught on six.
Sherrin’s standout innings came to an end with Levy securing a second wicket.
Aaron Johnson was the final wicket for Walcha in the 35th over as they were all out for 125.
Ian Law and Ritesh Shakhawat got things underway with a couple of boundaries before Walcha’s Thor Crombie sent law for 10.
Shakhawat and Campion combined for 39-run partnership with Shakhawat making 24 before Harrison claimed his wicket.
Greg Wilkins was the next to depart for nine off Harrison and Glen were 3-61.
Campion reached 24 before he was dismissed by Johnson.
Nathan Purvis scored eight and was the final wicket to fall with Fletcher claiming the scalp.
Brandon Levy and Joel Jackson combined to finish the innings and chase down the required total.
Levy scored 26 not out with Jackson finishing on 18 not out.
Glen host Armidale and Walcha will be at home to Peel Bush Cricket in round three on January 9.
