Alasdair Macintyre: The Adventures of Aecap is an exhibition exploring what it means to be an artist, travelling through large interactive pieces and hands-on activities.
Ride with Aecap, Macintyre’s self-referential character, and his canine companion Impasto aboard the rollicking Splatsmobile; cozy up to the art-huggy monster; step inside the Junior Artist box; or become a Young Master.

“Aecap is my alter ego character,” Alasdair said. “He reflects the journey of a young artist or someone making their way in the art world.
“Even as a child, Aecap was drawing; he was dreaming about paints and colours; and then he goes forth, embarking on this lifelong adventure to be an artist.
“If I have done my job properly, perhaps children will look at this exhibition, and come away thinking that being an artist will be a fun thing to do. I think we are all capable of being an artist.”
"This exhibition is big, colourful, fun, and interactive,” NERAM director Rachael Parsons said. “It invites children and their families to explore their own imagination and creativity as they follow Aecap and Impasto on their journey.”
This is, Rachael said, an excellent exhibition for families to visit over the summer holidays, with activities and creative opportunities to add to their experience of the artworks on display. Entry free.
To coincide with The Adventures of Aecap, NERAM is running a kids’ art competition for infants through to high school students. Pop into NERAM and pick up an entry form. You can create your own character drawing, comic strip, or diorama. Great prizes to be won. Entries close on January 25.
Alasdair Macintyre: The Adventures of Aecap will be on display at NERAM until February 3, 2019.
