POLICE claim a man who was found with a sawn-off rifle had 0.22 grams of methylamphetamine in his possession.

Jake Carter, 24, was allegedly found with a 0.22 calibre sawn-off rifle and ammunition without a licence.
Appearing in Armidale Local Court via video link on Wednesday, Carter nodded a “Yep, morning” to magistrate Michael Holmes from Nowra Correctional Centre.
Carter’s defence solicitor Wendy McAuliffe told the court she wasn’t ready to move forward without the full brief of evidence.
“I’m seeking an adjournment to February 2 which is not opposed by police,” she said.
The gun, drugs and ammunition were allegedly found in the bedroom of Carter’s Donnelly Street unit in the early hours of the morning in November last year.
Target Action Group officers searched the apartment before seizing the illegal .22 calibre sawn-off and shortened rifle and a round found in a resealable bag under bed linen in the bedroom.
Already subject to a firearms and weapon prohibition order, Carter was taken into custody where he’s remained since.
He’s yet to enter a plea to any of the six charges against him.
Served with the firearms prohibition order in August, Carter faces a maximum of 14 years jail if he’s found guilty of acquiring the prohibited firearm while subject to the order.
Carter did not apply for bail and it was formally refused by Mr Holmes, the matter is adjourned to February 2.
