Glen Innes will enter a junior team in the popular and growing North West competition, who have opted to create an under 14s competition.
Auskick has been running locally for a few years and the program’s participants indicated wanting to continue the sport.
Robyn and Aaron Harvey have run the Auskick program and will head up the Glen Innes Celts club as secretary and head coach.

“We have had our Auskick for a couple of years and some of our kids have gotten too old for Auskick, my son included,” Robyn said.
“They all wanted to continue playing. Those guys were all keen to start a team so we thought ‘oh what the hell, we may as well do it.’
“As a junior club we can have an under 17s and an under 14s team but we don't think we will have enough for a 17s just yet but we will let them train with us.
Under 17s will continue and our kids will get a season pass to play for Inverell.
“Inverell is the closest and we know them the best so we will encourage them to play under 17s, if they actually want to play games, to go to Inverell but they can choose.”
The local team will play as the Glen Innes Celts and have secured King George Oval as their home ground.
“We thought we could come up with a team, we only need eight kids,” Robyn said.
“At this stage we have got four and once training starts we will hopefully get some numbers coming. The AFL is going to put some posts in for us in conjunction with the council and we will train Tuesdays and Fridays and Auskick will be on a Friday when it starts in term two.”
The fixture hasn’t been decided.
“They have a big meeting on Monday – the North West league – as per the draw, how it will work, whether we will have round robin games where all the teams go to one town on a certain day, or whether it will be with the seniors draw,” Robyn said.
“They haven't decided because it is brand new.”
The Celts will train Tuesdays and Fridays at 4.30pm from February 12.
