The 28-17 victory at the SCG was the Waratahs tenth-consecutive victory over their northern rivals and has seen them jump to second place on the Super Rugby Australian conference ladder.
The score saw the Waratahs claim victory while handing the Reds their third-straight loss.
Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson said he was pleased with his side's effort.
"We knew it was going to be tough and I’m particularly proud of the boys," Gibson said.
"It was a really grinding win for us.
"We showed some real character there and withstood a lot of pressure in that second half.
"I felt our boys stood up and won in a different way."
The Waratahs will now turn their attention to their crucial clash with the third-placed Brumbies on Friday night in Canberra.
