The town was put on level one restrictions less than a month ago. The council imposed level two restrictions from today.
A council media release said there was no need for water restrictions for Glen Innes "due to the supply available in the Eerindii Ponds.
"However residents are advised to minimise water consumption in these dry times to avoid excessive water consumption bills."
The Deepwater water restrictions are imposed "due to ongoing drought conditions" the release said.
Under level two restrictions residents may use a hand held hose or dripper system only between the hours of 6pm and 8pm.
Level one restrictions prohibit the use of garden sprinklers outside the the hours of 6pm and 8pm.
The council said that without the offstream storage of the Eerindii ponds, they would be forced to impose level five restrictions in Glen Innes.
Tenterfield shire has imposed level four water restrictions. Armidale is subject to water restrictions for the first time since the 1970s. Their dam is only 60 per cent full, and they expect restrictions to worsen.
