Law and his home-bred Yarrawa Guns N Roses made their way to the Sydney Royal Easter Show to compete against a fierce field in the World Championships Campdraft event.

The competition was run over six nights and Law took out one round and placed in three more giving him a score to put him in third overall.

Guns N Roses also finished as the highest scoring Australian Stock Horse, a feat of its own.

Law last competed at the Sydney Royal in 2004 and said the campdraft arena at the event is unlike any other.

"I hadn't competed in that event for about 15 years and I was on a completely different horse," Law said.

"I was confident if I could draw the cattle but it is a bit of an unknown in that type of arena because you are not anywhere near the fences and it is a turf arena made for playing football and sport on, not campdrafting, so the conditions were a bit different from normal.

"My horse went really well and seemed to handle it really well.

"The cut out is on the grass as well which is completely different because you have to work them a little differently than on a sandy camp yard like most of them are."

Law said it was a thrill to learn his results and attributed much of the success to his family's support.

"Particularly the third night when I won the round, that was pretty exciting," he said.

"Unfortunately my family had all gone home that morning.

"They were still in transit so they pulled up and watched on phones and devices because it was live-streamed.

"Obviously it is a team effort to allow me to be away for a week like that.

"They came home to take care of the farm and animals."

Law qualified for the Sydney event with Guns N Roses based on their results throughout the year.

Making the feat even more special, Codie and Natalie bred Guns N Roses.

Codie had even competed on the dam of the gelding at the Sydney Show decades prior.

"He is by our resident stallion Conray, out of a mare I competed on at Sydney 18 or 20 years ago," Law said.

Codie and his wife Natalie have both piloted the gelding to multiple wins in open divisions of local campdrafts as well as a placing at the prestigious Warwick Gold Cup which all contributed to qualification to riding in the Sydney event.

Law's third place overall has earned him automatic qualification into the 2020 World Championship Campdraft.

He said he will "definitely" be back.

"I would like to improve on my overall result," he said.

In the meantime, there's plenty more on the Law family's plate with more campdrafting and outside sporting commitments.

Law and Guns N Roses, as well as another home-bred mare, will take on the Willinga Park Gold Buckle Campdraft in two weeks which is now the richest event of its kind in Australia.
