They travelled to Armidale face the second-placed Blues and coach Sam Price was relieved to have more than just a starting side available to play, especially for an away game.
"We had good numbers and I had to make some decisions as a coach and make some subs," he said.
"I haven't had to do that much this year.
"I think we had 19 so that was excellent to get that many to go down to Armidale."
Across the park the Elks dominated to take the 32-12 win.
"Everyone played really well, it was very much a team game," Price said.
"There probably wasn't any real standouts.
"Bill Hartmann came back after he hadn't played for us for a couple of years.
"He played really well.
"The whole team played really well to be honest."
The Elks recent victories have come off the back of strong defence and Price said it was much the same against the Blues.
"Solid defence again which seems to be the key," he said.
"When we defend really well we seem to be able go better.
"We can control the footy and play the game we want which was good to see so hopefully we can keep it up."
Price is hoping to keep momentum going again this Saturday in another away match against Robb College.
The college teams have a reputation for pace on the edges.
"As long as we can keep that defence out wide it promises to be an interesting game," Price said.
As for the rest of the season, Price believes they can have an impact if they can keep putting a team on the park.
"Very happy with how the season is progressing," he said.
"If we can continue on and keep the numbers we will be laughing.
"I look forward to see how we go for the rest of the season. Our forward pack has been very solid, especially when we get big Tommy Coldham in there and a bit of weight in that forward pack."
