They have a first, second and third division with the third division team comprising of mainly young boys and girls straight out of juniors with a few old heads scattered through them.
First division
The Highlanders first division played against South Armidale as well.
They were once again missing key players and relied on solid second division players to help out in the clash.
And it was a cracking first-half of football.
Souths started strongly jumping to a 3-1 lead with Mick Moroney scoring the lone goal.
The second-half started well for Highlanders.
They began to find their grove which saw a great goal scored off the head of Blake Martin.
Shortly after ,Jeff Miller found the back of the net to equal the score 3-all.
The Souths side were on the back foot and started directing their anger towards the referee.
After several minutes of the whole Souths side abusing the ref, he produced a red card to a Souths playing which enraged the Souths team even more.
The Souths team under the pump walked off the field to forfeit the game giving Highlanders the win.
Players' player was Robert Ferris.
First are in third spot at the moment and with the return of some key players will be hard to beat from here on.
Second division
Highlanders second division played South Armidale at Glen Innes in a hard-fought match on Saturday, only to go down 5-4 in the end.
Anthony Joyce, Daniel Ferris, Dan Leabeater and Mick Moroney scoring for Highlanders.
Harry Lynn was players' player improving every week.
Seconds are currently sitting in second spot on the ladder and will be very competitive this year.
Third grade
After two previous games against this Inverell team, where the scores were blowouts of 12-nil and 14-nil losses to the Highlander thirds with both games played with nnine players, the young Glen Innes team were out to prove that they can be a competitive side.
And it was a cracking first-half of football.
The backline of Troy, Jack, Holly and Preston showed that it wasn't going to be as easy this time around.
Jack Goldman was everywhere with a Man of the Match performance, shutting down the Inverell attack.
Paul Knox was great in goals and pulled off some great saves.
The loss of Holly and Paul to injury meant a reshuffle across the backs and in the halves.
The halves worked hard tracking up and back all game and unfortunately that showed in the second half with some tiredness setting in.
Nash and Blake worked hard in the forwards, but the Inverell team were a very solid bunch in the backs and shut them down nearly every time.
We did have our chances, with Maddie playing a very solid game down the left half and feeding the ball through on several occasions.
The final score of 6-nil didn't reflect the intensity and heart the young players put into the game and the thirds came away with a renewed sense of achievement.
A big thanks to Nigel Sharman for refereeing the game for us.
The competition takes a break over the June long weekend.
On June 15, the first and second division teams head to Armidale to play TAS while thirds play Souths 19s.
