The brownout caused an unplanned power outage for some homes and businesses between 12.50pm and 1.35pm, according to a statement by Essential on Monday.
Operations manager Ranges, Paul McWilliam, said crews quickly identified the issue and then re-routed the electricity network around the fault.
"The fault was identified in Church Street in a piece of equipment used to sectionalise the electricity network," he said.
"Sectionalising equipment is used to assist with reducing the number of homes and businesses affected by planned power outages for electricity network maintenance and upgrade work and to also assist with power restoration efforts if an unplanned power outage occurs."
A second urgent planned power outage affected 32 homes and businesses between approximately 9.50pm and 11.30pm that evening as Essential completed permanent repairs to the electricity network.
