Aleisha May Brown was arrested in a stolen red Lexus on July 17 and is also accused of riding shotgun as a co-accused evaded police in a high-speed chase along the New England highway.

Brown, 21, lives in West Tamworth. She was charged with knowingly being carried in a stolen car but missed a court date at the Glen Innes Local Court on Wednesday.

Her lawyer said she had contacted their office the day before because she couldn't get to Glen Innes.

The charges have been adjourned to Tamworth Local Court for a plea on September 2, but will be sent back to Glen Innes for a possible trial if she pleads not guilty.

Police say the car was heading towards Tenterfield before dawn on July 17 but was turned around at the Bolivia Hill roadworks and headed back towards Glen Innes.

They intercepted the Lexus near the Dundee intersection of Bald Nob Road, and pulled the car over - but as they approached on foot the car sped away.

Police took off in pursuit at around 4.45am with blazing lights and sirens but ended the chase as they approached the town due to concern for the safety of the community, they said.

They located the car abandoned at around 7.50am.

Aleisha May Brown and her alleged co-offender were arrested walking on the New England Highway up Ben Lomond hill.

Another car, a silver Hyundai i30 with registration CA-41-TN, which was allegedly stolen from the same lot has yet to be found, police say.
