Less than a month ago, the Tamworth Roosters towelled up the Celts by 90 points but the Glen Innes side turned it around when it mattered.
The Celts, an under-14s side, beat their opponents 6.13-49 to 6.8-44 on Saturday to progress to the coming grand final against Inverell in Gunnedah.
"They played their hearts out all day and never gave up," Celts coach Aaron Harvey said.
"Really proud of how well they are playing as a team.
"To get ahead and then across the line and hold them off was a credit to them.
"They beat us by 90 points here at home so to turn that around and make the result our way at the end of the day was a fantastic achievement.
"We were hoping for a close contest and to actually come away with the win was a bonus.
"Win, lose or draw we are very happy with the way our season has gone so far."
Harvey's team have improved throughout the season and that was evident by the turnaround.
"It will because Tamworth have got two or three players who do the job on us each week," he said.
"We had a couple of key players go to them and keep them quiet.
"For everyone else to form up and get the job done and compete was great."
For Harvey, having the sport in Glen Innes and the club going so well is a win for him.
Added to that is the fact he is surrounded by young players who are eager to learn and take the field each week.
Harvey credited both under-14s teams for their effort on the park on Saturday.
"The team spirit and confidence they have got in themselves is fabulous to watch so it is really great," he said.
"Against Tamworth, they came up against some quality opposition on the weekend.
"It was a great game to watch from both sides.
"The skill level of both sides of the under-14 kids has been outstanding."
They will play Inverell at 9am on Saturday in what will be a huge day of Australian Rules Football grand finals in Gunnedah.
The under-14 grand final is first up, followed by under-17s, women's and then senior men's.
Harvey and the Celts can't wait.
"To go the one extra step is a credit to them," he said.
"They had to earn their spot in the grand final I suppose and that they did.
"Looking forward to the grand final but big task ahead, Inverell have been frontrunners all year and they have got a quality side so we will will have to be on our game to win.
"But win, lose or draw, it has been a fantastic year all-round."
The Celts began the year with a handful of players before the interest grew.
Now the club is thriving and there is talk of more players signing up for the 2020 season.
"I am really happy for the parents and everyone involved in the club," Harvey said.
"We started out thinking we would have six to eight players
"We have 17 under-14s running around now and to get this stage, the last day of the season, is fantastic."
Harvey also encouraged anyone who wants to support the Celts to come along to their final training session for the year.
"We are actually training Wednesday night this week at 4.30pm so if there is anyone around who wants to come down and get behind these guys, it would be great," he said.
"We have got a bit of interest coming through, we had two new guys which would be under-17s train with us last week.
"Anyone out there that is wanting to have a go or have a look, feel free to contact myself.
"We can put them board with next year."
Harvey also wanted to give a "big shout out to the community and also the sponsors for us."
