The federal grant of $13,725, announced today, will allow the volunteer-run Deepwater and District Community Radio Inc to broadcast from more events in the community outside its studio in Glen Innes.
Federal Member for New England, Barnaby Joyces said the grant, provided through the Tackling Tough Times Together initiative, would help Glen Innes cope with emergencies and natural disasters.
"I'm pleased to support the important role Deepwater and Districts Community Radio Inc plays in the local community with this $13,725 grant for its 2CBD Outside Broadcasting project," Mr Joyce said.
"The community initiative will improve social connection and community information sharing through the purchase of technology to enable 2CBD to reliably broadcast live from events in the local community.
"Local radio is the lifeblood of many rural towns here in the New England and this funding will greatly enhance the station's presence in the community."
The Federal government also funded GLENRAC to provide drought recovery workshops, and through the Glen Innes Severn Council for a new footpath and bike track, new toilets, a drought support officer and a drought recovery event.
