The four-day festival, which organiser Derek Foley hopes to make an annual Glen Innes fixture, has snagged the Voice finalist and multi-award winner Candice Dianna for its closing concert.

Kick off, set for Wednesday October 2, coincides with the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. The four day festival will open with a free concert by pianist Heather Rose at the Glen Innes Town Hall.

The Coffs Harbour-based musician has been commissioned to write a score to accompany a 14 minute silent movie, playing live to accompany the images as was the practice during the silent era.

She will then be joined by drummer Peter Harries Junior to play a repertoire of jazz, blues and honkytonk.

Organisers said that with more than 25% of the residents of Glen Innes and surrounding areas over 65 years old they planned the concert as a thankyou for their continued input to the businesses and associations of Glen Innes.

Young people will also have a change to get involved in GlenFest with a school holiday music workshop on Thursday at the Glen Innes Youth Centre.

The Services club will hold a special encore concert on Friday night, billed as everything from Cab Calloway to Jimmy Barnes and with ticket sales to be donated to support the volunteers of the Glen Innes branch of the RSPCA.

The festival will close on Saturday night at the Glen Innes Bowling Club featuring award winning singer Candice Dianna, who agreed to be involved in the festival to help support the RSPCA.
