The Combined Rotary Clubs of Armidale, Guyra and Uralla are holding an exclusive pre-release screening of a new Australian film as part of its Polio Plus Fundraising campaign.

The film is Ride Like a Girl and chronicles the story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup.

The film is not being released nationally until the following week, but will be screened in a special showing at Armidale's Belgrave Cinemas on Thursday, September 19.

The screening will start at 7pm, with pre-screening canapes being served at 6:30pm.

All proceeds from the night go to Rotary's Polio Plus program.

Despite being a conquered disease in 98 per cent of the world's countries, polio still exists as a wild disease in three countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria. Ongoing conflict in these areas hampers efforts to inoculate populations.

However, vaccination programs remain ongoing, and Rotary has partnered with the World Health Authority to raise ongoing funding for this program to defeat the disease.

Rotary funds the Polio Plus program in conjunction with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which will double all funds raised by Rotary on the night. With tickets will costing $30 a head, it means your entry fee effectively becomes a $90 donation.

The Rotary Clubs thank the Belgrave Cinemas for their support and for providing the opportunity to show this special screening.

Come along on the night and support both a wonderful new Australian film and a worthy international program.

Tickets can be bought on the night or you can pre-purchase tickets from the cinema.
